Avoiding Employee Burnout - A Little Appreciation Goes a Long Way

Employee burnout is a growing concern for employers worldwide. In simple terms, employee burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress at work, but in reality, influencing factors can be a lot more complex. 

Employee burnout is a serious problem, not only affecting an employee's well-being and mental health but also their work performance, and overall productivity.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Harvard Business Review, almost 50% of employees reported feeling burned out at work. 


Preventing burnout with employee appreciation 

One effective way to reduce instances of employee burnout is through employee appreciation. Employee appreciation is the act of recognizing and acknowledging the efforts and contributions of employees and is an essential component of employee engagement, which promotes a positive work environment, improves employee morale, and enhances productivity. 

When employees feel appreciated, they are more likely to be motivated, committed, and loyal to the organization - happier employees are better employees!

Many studies have shown that employee appreciation is valuable in reducing employee burnout. In a study conducted by Gallup, it was found that employees who feel appreciated are 43% more productive than those who don't. Furthermore, a survey by Globoforce found that 89% of employees who feel appreciated are less likely to leave their jobs.

These statistics demonstrate the importance of employee appreciation in maintaining a healthy and productive workforce.

What does employee appreciation look like?

There are many different ways to show employee appreciation. Here are a few of our favorites.

1. Offering incentives and rewards

2. Celebrating Employee Appreciation Day

Another way to show employee appreciation is by celebrating Employee Appreciation Day. Employee Appreciation Day is an annual event celebrated on the first Friday of March and is an opportunity for employers to recognize and appreciate their employees' hard work and dedication. 

On this day, employers often organize events like office parties, team-building activities, and other fun excursions to show their employees how much they are valued.
