This March, ten members of the Tillo team will be making their way to South Wales for a day of tree planting in partnership with Carma.

Who are Carma?

Carma, formerly Rewards.Earth, was founded by Jim Holland and Iain Gurney with the simple mission “to make tomorrow better today,” and they do so by making it easier for individuals and businesses to make a social and environmental impact by planting trees or donating towards other sustainable initiatives.

All Carma UK tree-planting projects are done through the Green Task Force. The Green Task Force re-trains veterans in both tree planting and a wide range of horticultural skills and is responsible for planting more than 3 million trees in and around the UK.

Why trees matter

It’s no secret that trees are one of the most straightforward solutions to climate change because they help to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and, at the same time, produce 20% of the world's oxygen

Unfortunately, the world is losing trees much faster than they are growing, and more than 18 million acres of rainforest are felled each year - that’s the equivalent of a football pitch-sized piece of forest every second!

On March 10th, Tillo will be doing its part to help restore some of the UK’s lost woodland by planting 1000 new trees, each of which will go on to absorb up to 700kg of CO2 in its lifetime.

How Tillo helps Carma to reach new customers

Carma is a retailer on the Tillo platform, which has helped them to reach millions more customers by gaining access to Tillo’s extraordinary range of B2B and B2C gift card programs.

Tillo’s commitment to sustainability

Tillo’s innovative platform is already reducing plastic waste by powering dozens of use cases for electronic digital gift cards. Unlike physical gift cards that are often made with single-use plastics, electronic gift cards are zero-waste and never end up in a landfill.

Tillo also encourages sustainable initiatives across its global offices, including proper recycling and the cycle-to-work scheme, and they schedule an annual beach cleanup day to help preserve the local Brighton coastline at the doorstep of their Hove office.

Despite these efforts, we know there’s much more that we can do to reduce our environmental impact, which is why we’re thrilled to be taking part in this tree-planting day with Carma!
